Every Saudi brand I talk to asks some version of the same question: should the budget go to Snapchat, TikTok, Meta or Google? The honest answer is that it depends on what you sell and what stage the buyer is at. The useful answer is a way of deciding, and that is what this article gives you.
The short answer
- Snapchat is the reach channel. It is where most Saudi adults already are, every day.
- TikTok is the discovery channel. It suits products that are easy to show in a few seconds.
- Meta (Instagram and Facebook) is the testing and retargeting channel. Its tools for creative, audience and offer testing are the most mature.
- Google is the demand channel. It catches people who are already searching for what you sell.
Most brands need two of these, not four. The rest of this article helps you pick which two.
Why Saudi Arabia is different
Advertisers come to Saudi Arabia with a global playbook and are surprised by Snapchat. According to DataReportal's Digital 2026 data, Snapchat's ad reach in Saudi Arabia is about 25.3 million people, roughly 89% of adults, ahead of Instagram and Facebook. Few other markets look like this.
Spend is also growing quickly. Saudi digital ad spend is estimated at about $4.68 billion in 2026, up around 17% on the previous year. More money chasing the same audiences means rising costs, which makes choosing the right channel, and testing within it, more important each year.
One caution: no platform or regulator publishes average Saudi costs per thousand impressions. When you see a confident CPM figure for Saudi Arabia online, it usually comes from a single ad account. Treat it as an anecdote, not a benchmark.
Snapchat: reach and everyday habit
Snapchat works when you need to be seen by a broad Saudi audience, especially younger adults, and your product can be explained in a full-screen vertical video. Restaurants, retail offers, app installs and seasonal campaigns tend to fit well.
It is weaker when the buyer needs to research before deciding, as in most B2B sales. Reach without intent fills the top of the funnel; it does not close the sale on its own.
TikTok: discovery through content
TikTok rewards brands that can make content people actually want to watch: a dish being made, a before and after, a quick demo. When the creative is right, it can find new buyers quickly. When the creative is a resized TV advert, it rarely works.
Budget for creative, not just media. A TikTok campaign with one video is a guess; a campaign with eight variations is a test.
Meta: the best place to test
Instagram and Facebook give you the most control over audiences, placements and offers, and the clearest reporting. That makes Meta the best place to learn what message and offer work before you scale them elsewhere.
At Petromin I ran paid acquisition on Meta and Google, testing creative, audiences and offers to bring acquisition costs down. Cost per thousand impressions fell 88% and click-through rate rose 15% year on year. None of that came from one clever advert. It came from running many small tests and moving budget to the winners every week.
Google: capture the demand that already exists
Google Search is the only one of the four where people tell you what they want. If customers search for your product or service, in Arabic or English, Search should usually be your first channel, because you are answering a question rather than interrupting a scroll.
Search is limited by demand: if nobody searches for your category yet, there is nothing to capture. That is when social channels create the demand that Search later collects.
How to choose: four questions
- Do people already search for what you sell? If yes, start with Google Search.
- Can your product be understood in five seconds of video? If yes, test TikTok or Snapchat.
- Is your audience mainly Saudi adults rather than a narrow niche? If yes, Snapchat's reach is hard to ignore.
- Do you know which message and offer work yet? If not, use Meta to find out before scaling anywhere.
A starting split for a small budget
For a startup or SME with a limited monthly budget, a reasonable starting point is to put most of it into one channel that matches the answers above, and a smaller share into a second channel as a test. Keep a little aside for retargeting people who visited but did not buy.
Run that for a month, compare cost per result, not cost per click, and move budget to the winner. The right split for your business comes out of the testing, not out of an article.
Common mistakes
- Spreading a small budget across all four platforms, so none gets enough data to learn.
- Running the same creative everywhere instead of making it native to each platform.
- Judging channels on clicks or likes instead of sales, leads or orders.
- Ignoring the season. Ramadan, National Day and White Friday change costs and behaviour on every platform.
Frequently asked questions
Is Snapchat better than TikTok for ads in Saudi Arabia?
Neither is better in general. Snapchat offers broader reach among Saudi adults, while TikTok tends to work best for products that can be shown in short, entertaining videos. Test both with the same offer and compare cost per result.
Which platform is cheapest for advertising in Saudi Arabia?
There is no reliable published benchmark for Saudi ad costs, and prices change with season and competition. The cheapest platform for you is the one with the lowest cost per sale or lead, which you can only find by testing.
Should a B2B company use Snapchat or TikTok?
Usually not as a first channel. B2B buyers research before deciding, so Google Search and LinkedIn, supported by retargeting on Meta, are normally a better start.
How long should I test a new ad platform?
Long enough to see a stable cost per result, which for most small budgets means at least a few weeks with several creative variations. Stopping after a few days usually tells you more about the algorithm learning than about the channel.
